Lawrence Drayton “Larry, Pete” Johnston, III, 53, of Thaxton, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2019 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born on April 22, 1966 in Bedford, VA. Larry served his country in the United Sates Marine Corp. He was an avid Tennessee Football fan. He also enjoyed NHRA drag racing. In previous years he enjoyed model cars and in his most recent years found enjoyment in woodworking. He loved his family dearly especially his grandkids. His home always had an open door for folks to be a part of his family. Many young kids and adults found comfort and love within his home and they were always welcome. Larry never met a stranger and was loved by many and will be missed by all that knew him.

Larry is survived by his mother, Sarah Wilson Johnston; father, Lawrence Drayton Johnston, Jr. and his wife, Dianne Johnston; loving wife of 30 years and caregiver, Tammy Pearson Johnston; six children, Joshua David Johnston and wife, Shelby, Kayla Michelle Johnston and future son-in-law, Ben Martin, William Chadwick Johnston, Christopher Drayton Johnston, Erin Elizabeth Johnston and Larissa Clutter; five grandchildren, Jackson, Connor, Landon, Harlynne and Michael; brother, Michael Glenn Johnston; sister, Victoria Leigh Johnston; also numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.

A memorial service and celebration of Lawrence’s life will be conducted at 5:30pm on Monday, June 24, 2019 at Suck Spring Baptist Church.
