Lawrence Edward Gallier

October 17, 1938 — February 15, 2017

On February 15, 2017 Lawrence Edward “Pops” Gallier went home to be with his lord and savior. He was the loving husband of the late Betty Owen Gallier for 57 years.

Born October 17, 1938 in Lynchburg, Lawrence was a son of the late Harry Lee Gallier and the late Rosa Alice Gallier.

In addition to his wife and parents, Lawrence was preceded in death a sister Alice Faye Gallier.

Lawrence is survived by two sons, David Gallier (Debbie) of Lynchburg, Larry Gallier (Theresa) of Marysville, CA; three daughters, Carol Quaintance (Ron), Denise Coffer, both of Lynchburg and Sheryl Johns (Donald) of Evington; nine grandchildren, Daniel (Ashley), Derek (Nicole), Brianna (Brian), Pam (Kevin), Jenny (Josh), Brittany (Andrew), David Jr. (Ashley), Christina (Charley), and Jessica (David); fourteen great-grandchildren; and a brother, Harry Lee Gallier Jr. (Faye) of Forest.

Lawrence “Pops” served his country in the United States Navy and was a retired employee of Columbia Gas. He loved spending time with his family, playing horseshoes-winning many tournaments and taking yearly vacations to Myrtle Beach. Pops was loved by many and never met a stranger.

The family would like to thank the staff at Runk and Pratt memory care and the wonderful staff at LGH 4East for the kind and compassionate love shown to our loved one and our entire family.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until noon on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, with a celebration of Lawrence’s life following at noon, with Pastor Ken Parrish officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family receive friends at other times at the home of Donald and Sheryl Johns.
