Lawrence “Larry” Mitchell, 73, of Huddleston, passed away at home with his family Saturday, November 28, 2015. He was the loving husband of Catherine Mitchell for 52 years.
Born February 9, 1942, and raised in Sheffield, AL. In 1960, Larry graduated from Sheffield High School. He later moved to Washington, D.C. where he met the love of his life, Catherine, and began a career with the FBI while attending George Washington University. He proudly served in the United States Air Force Reserve. After retiring from a career in construction sales in D.C., he returned to his career in law enforcement and moved to Richmond to work at the Virginia State Police alongside his wife. It was during his time at Smith Mountain Lake that it was discovered he was in advanced stages of renal failure which required dialysis.
In addition to his wife, Larry is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Mitchell; son, Mark Mitchell. He will be sadly missed by family, friends, the family’s Pembroke Welsh Corgis, and cat.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clara Veach and Floyd Mitchell; his brother, William Mitchell.
