Lawrence Stephen “Larry” Ouellette, 74, of Lynchburg, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2016, at Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was the loving and devoted husband of Edna M. Ouellette for 51 years.
Larry was born in Wyandotte, Michigan on October 11, 1941. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1960, serving his country with honor and distinction until his retirement in 1981 with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3. After his retirement from the Navy he went to work for AREVA until his retirement in 2016. He devoted his life to the service of others by serving on the Board of Directors of New Vistas School as well as the United Way.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Donna M. Coats and her husband, James R. W. Coats, of Oak Harbor, WA, and their son, James R. W. Coats, Jr.; his daughter Ann Arnold and her husband, Gary Arnold, and their children Amanda Arnold, Hannah Arnold, and granddaughter, Lilly A. Brockenbrough, of Lynchburg; his daughter Patricia Ouellette Campbell and her husband, Russell L. Campbell, and their son Russell L. Campbell, Jr., of Amherst; his daughter Lauren Spencer and her husband, Duane Spencer, of Mount Airy, MD and their children William B. Spencer, Elizabeth G. Spencer, Catherine M. Blackburn, and Nicholas A. Spencer; his only son Lawrence Stephen Ouellette II, his ex-wife Jody Ouellette, and their children, Faith Ouellette and Jacob Ouellette of Lynchburg; and his loyal pets Maggie and Max.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, papa, and great-papa that will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, 220 Breezewood Dr., Lynchburg, VA 24502 on Friday, April 22, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Leon Johnson of Soddy Daisy, TN officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Spring Hill Cemetery, 3000 Fort Ave. Lynchburg, VA 24501 with military honors by American Legion Post 16.
