Lee Edward “Eddie” Lantz, 64, of Lynchburg, Va., died on September 25, 2016, in Charlottesville, Va., following a brief illness. He was born on April 2, 1952, in Harrisonburg, Va. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Lois Lantz, and an infant brother, Jeffrey.
Eddie is survived by his brother, Jay Lantz and his wife Cathy, of Mechanicsville, Va., their daughter, Emma Bonovitch and her husband Jesse, of Richmond, Va.; his sister, Barbara Shank and her husband Nelson, of Stuarts Draft, Va.; their children, Lorissa Skelton, her husband Andrew, and their children Braelyn and Camden of Roanoke, Va., and Christy Shank and fiancé Darren, of Stuarts Draft, Va. Also surviving are his step-children Alex Swann Tolbert and son Aubin, Stephen Judd and his wife Cameron, their children Cole and Connor all of Lynchburg, Va.
Eddie attended Virginia Tech and James Madison University and received his Master’s Degree in Psychology at George Mason University. He was a Licensed Clinical Counselor. He worked at Rustburg Mental Health Center and in private practice at James River Counseling Center. Before his retirement in 2015, he was a member of the Mental Health Consultation Services at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Perhaps his biggest accomplishment and source of joy was in his relationships with others. Eddie was loved by many. He was devoted to those he loved, including his pets, Blue and Chester. In addition to his family, he leaves a large number of friends, many of whom are lifelong from his childhood in Broadway, Va., He considered many of his professional colleagues to be among his best friends. His warmth, hospitality and generosity were widely admired and he will be greatly missed. Eddie was an avid sports enthusiast, and liked to travel and entertain. He loved good conversation, playing games and social gatherings of all sorts. He hosted wonderful chicken barbeques in his family’s tradition and organized many traditions with family and friends such as sports and holiday decorating weekends.
A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, October 1, 2016, at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, Va., with the Rev. Mark Beck officiating. All are welcomed to attend and celebrate his life.
