Lee Roy Luther Sr., 83, of Lynchburg was greeted by his Savior on Sunday July 8, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his family. Lee Roy loved his Savior and wanted everyone to love Him too. Lee Roy was a witness for the gospel and shared the gospel with anyone who would listen, using the multitude of Bibles, study guides, and concordances that he constantly studied.
Lee Roy was born February 8, 1935 to the late Ernest L. Luther and Eunice W. Luther in Buford, Georgia. He was raised in Buford, GA by family members after his mother passed away when he was just 7 years old. At the age of 15, he boarded a train and came to Lynchburg, VA to live with his father and step-mother. Lee Roy was known to all in the area for working in the grocery business. He had his faithful followers that no matter where he went and worked, they would travel just to shop with him. Lee Roy worked for Piggly-Wiggly, Kings, Food World, and Harris Teeter, along with insurance jobs early in his career.
Lee Roy adored his family. He is survived by his loving wife Carol D. Luther, who was his true love and apple of his eye. Lee Roy’s memory is cherished by his five children; Pat Pribble, Lee Roy Luther Jr (Lee) and his wife Shirley, Paul Drinkard and his wife Bonnie, Tina Jefferson and her husband Franklin, and Steve Luther and his wife Sarah. His memory is also cherished by his nine grandchildren; Todd Pribble, Blake Pribble, Seneca Luther and wife Nicole, Kim Glass and husband Todd, Brandon Jefferson, Madison Luther, Dylan Tyree, Austin Luther, and Emma Luther. Lee Roy has one great-grandchild Arin Luther. He also is survived by his very special Aunt Betty Woody.
Lee Roy was preceded in death by his father Ernest Lee Luther and mother Eunice W. Luther, step mother Mabel Luther, and many loving Aunts and Uncles who helped raise Lee Roy.
Our family would like to send a special and heartfelt THANK YOU to Centra Hospice for the great and wonderful care that was shown to Lee Roy during this time. A very special thank you to his Case Nurse Rebecca Kaiser who was so wonderful, genuine, caring, and loving to Lee Roy. Lee Roy loved Rebecca and looked forward to seeing her with their visits.
