Leftridge Layne Goodwin

Leftridge Layne Goodwin, known to all as “Laddy,” 91, of Lynchburg, passed away, Saturday, January 18, 2025. He was the husband of the late Mary Lou Johnson Goodwin.

Laddy was born on October 24, 1933, in Kimball, West Virginia, a son of the late Clifford Denny Goodwin and Mabel Brown Goodwin. Laddy honorably served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps, graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and retired from Aerofin Corporation, where he worked as a mechanical engineer. After retiring, he wrote a series of memoirs while caregiving for his mother, wife, and son. He attended Euclid Christian Church, Hyland Heights Baptist Church, and Compassion Church of the Nazarene in Lynchburg.

He is survived by his children, Deborah Parkins (Chip) of Mount Crawford, Jonathan Brian Goodwin (Lynne) of Lynchburg, Stephanie Lynn Goodwin of South Carolina, and a grandson whom he raised, Anthony Lee Goodwin (Lisa) of Portsmouth; in addition, two other grandsons, Charles Curry Parkins, III (Holly), and Clifford Layne Parkins, and one great-granddaughter, Penelope Quinn Parkins.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son Leftridge Layne “Lad” Goodwin, Jr., and his brother Denny Nickels Goodwin.

The family would like to thank Laddy's special friends Tasha and Ruby, the CNAs, nurses and staff at Forest Health and Rehab for the compassion and loving care that made his last days comfortable.

A Memorial Service to honor the life of Laddy will be held at 2:30 on Sunday, February 16th at Compassion Church of the Nazarene in Lynchburg, with Pastor Mike Lyle officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making memorial contributions to Meals on Wheels or the Compassionate Ministry Fund at Compassion Church, or a charity of your choice.
