Leftwich “Ray” Reynolds, 74, lately of Rustburg, VA, peacefully traded his earthly tent for a heavenly dwelling not made with hands but by His Savior on Saturday, May 25, 2024.
Ray was born on May 15,1950 in Lynchburg, VA.
Ray was preceded in death by his father and mother, Leftwich and Helen Coleman Reynolds. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Martha Smith Reynolds; his daughters, Michelle Pessarra (Aaron) and Amanda Ney (Eric); his six grandchildren, Carl, Sydney, and Travis Pessarra and Titus, Tenaya, and Topanga Ney; and his sister Ava Wambach (John).
He was a loving son, husband, father, and “Pop”. He was loved immensely by his immediate family as well as a large extended family and many friends, and just about anyone who knew him.
Ray served his country from 1969-1974 as a Communications Tech in the United States Navy. He retired from Truist Bank on 12/31/22 after working there for 48 years.
He was an avid collector of 1950’s–1960’s Top 100 music – collecting vinyl, cassettes, and CDs. He researched and created a database for all these songs. You could easily find him lounging in his music room with his headphones on enjoying a few tunes. He also loved reading historical fiction and music biographies.
Ray was a member of Keystone Baptist Church, joining after moving back to the Lynchburg area. He has served at several previous churches as Deacon and Sound Technician.
We would love to send a “Thank You” to the Lynchburg General Hospital staff in ICU and Oncology for the care and support they gave to Ray and the family during the time he was there.
Also, a “Thank You” to all the friends and family for the prayers and support during the last several weeks.
And a special “Thank You” to the family “rock”, Amy Davis, for being there whenever and wherever she was needed. We can never say “Thank You” enough.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Roof Fund of Keystone Baptist Church, 212 Fleetwood Drive, Lynchburg, VA, 24501.
Inurnment will be held July 10, 2024, at 1 P.M. at Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia.
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg is assisting the family.
