Leighna Grace Ferguson, 6, of Lynchburg, passed away Friday, August 30, 2019. She was the daughter of Roxanne Mitchell Ferguson and Shannon Ferguson.
Born on February 14, 2013, in Fort Bragg, N.C., Leighna fought a hard, short battle with Leukemia. She was a child wise, sweet, and good beyond her years. Greatly loved by all who knew her, in her short time on earth, Leighna has touched and impacted many lives. She was to attend Perrymont Elementary School, in Lynchburg, for first grade.
In addition to her parents she is survived by her maternal grandfather, Rufus (Linda) Mitchell and maternal grandmother, Lura Mitchell; paternal grandparents, Velma and Theodore Ferguson, Jr.; maternal great-grandmother, Nadine Carter; paternal great-grandmother, Yvonnie Ferguson; aunts, Chrissy Mitchell, Shenika Mitchell, Tajuana Ferguson (Pernell Lewis), and Kerrie Johnson Garcia (Juan); uncles, Rufus Mitchell, Jr., Marcus Mitchell, Jajuan Ferguson and a host of other loving family members and friends.
A celebration of Leighna’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at Altha Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Marcus Jones officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in Altha Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family wishes to give a very special thank you to the critical care teams in the PICU, Hematology/Oncology Departments, and all others that were involved in her care at the University of Virginia Children’s Hospital.
