Leila P. Hopkins of Lynchburg died at the age of 89 on March 10, 2020, at Westminster Canterbury.  She was survived by her husband of 61 years, Donald A. Hopkins, and their two children, Ronald (Kathy) Hopkins, Alison (Peter) Pellittieri.  Four grandchildren also survive her.  They are Anthony Pellittieri of Austin, TX, Joseph Pellittieri of Rochester, NY, Clara Hopkins of Manhattan Beach, CA, and Benjamin Hopkins of La Jolla, CA.

Leila was the daughter of the late Flora and Herman Presson of Camden, Tennessee.  She was the seventh of their ten children.  Her three younger siblings survive her.

Leila was a graduate of the University of Tennessee and received her Master of Science from the University of Iowa at the age of 21.  She then became the Dietician for the Metabolic Research Ward at Massachusetts General Hospital.  Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo provided her a one year opportunity as an Assistant Professor of Home Economics.  From that she became Assistant Director, Department of Dietetics at the University of Michigan.  Following her marriage to Donald she was Therapeutic Dietitian at Highland Hospital in Rochester NY.

When the children were young she held part time positions teaching student nurses at the University of Rochester, Roberts Wesleyan College, and SUNY at Buffalo.  She retired after 13 years as an Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Dietetic Program at the Rochester institute of Technology.   Leila was a Trustee of Ferrum College.

Her celebration of life is expected to be held in June or July (date TBA) with a Memorial Service at Westminster Canterbury.
