Leland S. Hubbell, Jr.

Leland S. Hubbell, Jr. 89, of Lynchburg died Wednesday October 24, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the devoted husband of the late Frances Harris Hubbell.

Leland was born March 24, 1923 in Campbell County a son of the late Leland Stanford Hubbell, Sr. and the late Zelda Mills Hubbell. Leland honorably served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was retired from both C & P and AT & T Telephone Companies as an installer technician. Lee was active in his community and was a member of the Lynchburg Host Lions Club, the Elks Lodge #321, the YMCA, American Legion Post #16, and served as a deacon at Fairview Christian Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Beverley Schroy and husband Dave of Virginia Beach, and Sheree Hubbell Bowen and husband Bill of Forest, and three grandchildren; Lindi McEachern, Lt. William A. Bowen, III, and his wife Natalie, and Justin Wheeler Bowen, and one great-grandson Dilin James Guilliland.

In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a brother Ralph O. Hubbell and a sister Elizabeth H. Taylor.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friday October 26, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg.

A Celebration of Leland\"™s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday October 26, 2012 in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park with military honors performed by American Legion Post #16.
