Lenora DeJarnette Marshall, of Lynchburg, went to be with her Lord on October 29, 2023. She was born on July 4, 1926, a daughter of the late Edwin DeJarnette and Ira Ramsey DeJarnette.
After graduating high school in Campbell County, Virginia, she went on to attend business college for two years. After the birth of her daughter, Lenora became a homemaker known for her cooking of delicious meals. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, sewing, tending to her vegetable garden, and entertaining family and friends with dinners, especially at Christmas and Thanksgiving. She was known for growing the prettiest African Violets in the area. Lenora was a faithful member of Hyland Heights Baptist Church where she enjoyed her Sunday school class until her health declined.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, Carrol Marshall, whom she stood beside for over 6 decades; and two brothers, Alfred and Marvin DeJarnette.
Lenora is survived by one daughter, Brenda Marshall Layne (Jeff); two grandchildren, Anthony Bourn (Taylor) and Megan Layne; five great grandchildren, Avery Bryant, Harper Bourn, Gabriel Bourn, Ocean Layne, and Electra Layne.
A visitation will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023, at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg from 10 – 11 a.m. A graveside service will be held following the visitation at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Peakland United Methodist Church Preschool.
