Leonard Stanley France, 83, of Madison Heights, died on Friday, January 13, 2017 with family by his side. He was the husband of Leah Hawkins France for 61 years.
Born Wednesday, March 15, 1933, in Springwood, Virginia, he was the son of the late Wilton France and the late Mazie Huffman France.
He retired as a Master Sergeant after 22 years of service in the U. S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After his retirement, he was employed by Buncher Railcar in Lynchburg.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his sons, Mark France and Jeffrey France; daughters, Xieminia Shrader and Patricia Leigh Kohorst; brothers, Wilton Robert France, Howard France, Roy France; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren
He was predeceased by two brothers, Harry Lewis France and Paul Edward France, and his sister, Christine France.
A celebration of Leonard’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at Tharp Funeral Home, Madison Heights with Pastor Dan Lee officiating. A burial will follow at 2:00 PM in Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Springwood, VA. The family will receive friends at Tharp Funeral Home, Madison Heights, on Monday, January 16, 2017, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM and again on Tuesday one hour prior to the funeral.
