Leonard Vaughan, Jr., 78, of Lynchburg, Virginia finished this life’s journey on June 8, 2023. He was the son of the late Leonard Vaughan, Sr. and Minerva Freeman Glass, both of whom predeceased him in his journey of life. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his brother Larry Vaughan.
Leonard was born on May 23, 1945, in Lynchburg, Virginia. He attended Dunbar High School and Central Virginia Community College, later becoming an entrepreneur as a self-employed contractor. Leonard was an avid fisherman, exploring fishing expeditions with one of his closest friends’ Jerome Dillard. In addition to fishing, he also enjoyed bowling, working puzzles, and watching golf. Prior to his health declining, Leonard attended Tree of Life Ministries and other churches in the Lynchburg community.
Those left to cherish his precious memories are his children: Patsy Vaughan-Anderson (Gary), Michelle Grange, Anthony Vaughan, Rodney Vaughan (Regina), and Jharan Marshall-Vaughan. In addition to his children, he will be sorely missed by his one and only sister, Mary Thornhill, and her devoted daughter, Ayonna Harris, who will truly miss her “champ.” His 12 grandchildren will miss their grandad, as well as, his beloved three great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, family, and many loving friends in the community.
A visitation will be held on June 11, 2023 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home and Crematory on Breezewood Drive in Lynchburg. A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at 12 p.m. this service also taking place at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory. The interment will take place at Presbyterian Cemetery located at 2020 Grace Street, Lynchburg, Virginia immediately following his celebration of life.
