Leonard William Monteith, Sr., 67, of Bedford, died Saturday, November 2, 2013. Born May 5, 1946, in Farmville, he was a son of the late James Burlin Monteith and the late Annie Pearl Quinn Monteith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, James Lee Monteith.
Leonard was a self-employed auto mechanic for 25 years. He enjoyed camping, softball and NASCAR.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Patricia Ann Crouch Monteith, of Bedford; a son, Leonard William Monteith, Jr. and his wife, Shannon, of Moneta; two grandchildren, Matt Wayne Nester and his wife, Alyse, of Thaxton, Hadley Addison Monteith of Moneta; two great-grandchildren, Brooke Leigh-ann Nester, Connor Wayne Nester, both of Thaxton; a sister, Ann Monteith Lotts and her husband, Kenny, of Bedford; a brother, Robert D. Monteith and his wife, Nita, also of Bedford; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford. A celebration of Leonard\"™s life will be held on Thursday, November 7, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, with the Rev. Hershel Stone officiating. Interment will take place at 2:00 PM in Glasgow Cemetery.
