Leonard Wilson Nichols
Leonard Wilson Nichols, 91, died Friday, January 28, 2011 at Appomattox Health & Rehab. Born in Big Island, VA on September 21, 1919, he was a son of the late Charles Jackson Nichols and Lousie Peters Nichols. In addition to his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda D. Nichols; two brothers, Charles \"Elmer\" Nichols and William \"Dennis\" Nichols; one sister, Mary \"Lemma\" Inge.
Leonard was a member of Sedalia Baptist Church. He retired from Owens-Illinois Paper Mill, now Georgia Pacific, after 43 years of dedicated service.
Leonard is survived by his wife Mildred M. Nichols of Bedford, four sons; Sammy R. Nichols of Rising Sun, MD, Charlie J. Nichols of Big Island, Larry C. Nichols, Sr. and Clara of Bedford, Mark L. Nichols and Teresa of Evington, one daughter; Linda Foster and Bobby of Concord, four grandchildren; Larry C. Nichols, Jr. and Leslie of Bedford, Sgt. Shelly N. Roberts and Colin of Fairbanks, AL, Melissa Foster of Concord, and Robert D. Foster III of Greensboro, NC, and a sister; Frances Rhodes.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Big Island Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 122, Big Island, VA 24526 or Big Island Emergency Crew, PO Box 343, Big Island, VA 24526.
A memorial service will be held at Tharp Funeral Chapel Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Mark Grooms officiating. The family will receive friends at Tharp Funeral Home, Friday, February 4, 2011 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Arrangements by Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford, VA 540-586-3443.
