Leslie Howard Jones 73 of Lynchburg, VA. , went to be with the lord on Saturday , May 6, 2017 He was the loving husband of Jaqueline Harvey Jones .
Leslie was born Sunday, July 4, 1943 in Lynchburg, VA., a son of the late James and MaeElla Jones. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era. He was retired from the Virginia Department of Corrections where he was a parole officer. Leslie was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of South Lynchburg.
In addition to his wife, left to cherish Leslie’s memory are a son Michael L. Terry (Juan), two daughters, Cesley, and Kenya Watkins, two sisters, Khadijah Karreim (Maurice), Gwendolyn Gradney, one brother , Charles Jones (Shirley) a uncle Leslie H. Ross (Dorothy) , aunt , Elaine Scott two grandchildren Cordera, and DeAngelo Terry. A special thanks to his devoted friends and loving family James and Sherranne Anderson, Barcell “Bo” Saunders, Charles Gill, and James Thomas.
Leslie was a committed volunteer with the Alan B. Pearson Cancer Center; American Cancer Society, State Board member of Virginia Cares, Free Clinic, Project Discovery, and his Neighborhood Watch Program. Leslie was an avid fisherman and sports enthusiast. He loved people and people loved him. He will be missed by many.
Finally Leslie’s family would like to thank the Oncology Staff on 4 East at the Lynchburg General Hospital for their wonderful care.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. on Thursday May 11, 2017 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A celebration of Leslie’s life will be held at 1 P.M. on Friday, May 12, 2017 at Tharp Funeral Chapel, Lynchburg with Dr.Carl B. Hutcherson officiating. Interment will follow in the Dennis Family Cemetery. Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
