Lewis Earl Perdue

Lewis Earl Perdue, 87, of Lynchburg, passed peacefully with his family at his bedside, Friday, January 8, 2010 in Lynchburg General Hospital after a 12 year battle with cancer. He was the husband of the late Marie Walker Perdue.

Mr. Perdue was born March 15, 1922 in Lynchburg, a son of the late Lewis Galloway Perdue and the late Mabel Ruth Redmond Perdue. He was a lifelong member of Forest Road United Methodist Church. He proudly served our country, in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a long time member of the Forest Hill Ruritan Club and a member of the Benevolent Order of Elks.

Despite the fact that he left school at an early age, he studied hard thru correspondence classes and learned the electrical trade. This hard work resulted in two very successful businesses; he was co-founder of Perdue & Walker Electrical Contractors and was the president of L.E. Perdue & Sons Electrical Contractors.

Mr. Perdue had a green thumb and enjoyed hunting, but most of all, he loved his family. He was a man of wisdom, honorable integrity, and strong will. Mr. Perdue was a good man who never complained.

He is survived by two sons, Danny Perdue and his wife, Delores of Lynchburg and Keith Perdue and his wife, Diane of Smyrna, TN; five grandchildren, Rachel Perdue and Adam Perdue and his wife, Melissa, all of Smyrna, TN, James Perdue and his wife Meg of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Brian and his wife, April, and Todd Perdue and his wife, Tammy, all of Lynchburg; seven great grandchildren, Jack, Joe, Caleb, Cassidy, Hunter, Maddie, and Landon; two sisters, Elaine Perdue Coffey of Lone Pine, CA, and Elizabeth Perdue Robertson of Fresno, CA.

In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Perdue Frady and Edith Perdue Wilson.

The family will receive friends today from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.

A funeral service will be conducted Monday, January 11, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Road United Methodist Church with Rev. John Kinnard and the Rev. A. Howell Franklin officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park with military honors provided by American Legion Post 16.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. John L. MacNeill and the oncology nursing staff at Lynchburg General Hospital.
