Linton Corlise Beasley

September 7, 1930 — July 1, 2024

Linton Corlise Beasley, 93, of Lynchburg, died at home July 1, 2024. He was the loving husband of Nancy Hestetune Beasley, to whom he was married for 65 years. Lin and Nancy married in Frankfurt, Germany, where he was stationed with the U.S. Army and she was working for the Red Cross.

Lin was born Sept. 7, 1930, in Campbell County, son of the late Charles Goodman Beasley and Clara Bryant Beasley. He graduated from Brookville High School in 1947. He received his bachelor’s degree from Lynchburg College in 1952 and his master’s degree from the University of Minnesota in 1965. He served for 21 years in the Army, including two tours in Vietnam, and retired in 1974 as a lieutenant colonel. He received his Airborne Qualification, Ranger Tab, and Combat Infantryman Badge, and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, the Bronze Star Medal for Valor, and the Army Legion of Merit.

In 1974, Lin became co-owner of Beasley Disposal Systems, Inc., with his brothers, Clayton and Harold. He later sold the business to Browning Ferris, Inc., and continued his employment with BFI until 1996. For a short time, he worked as a real estate agent in Lynchburg. Lin was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Lynchburg (President, 1983-84; Lieutenant Governor, 1992-93; and Secretary, 2009-18). He was a member of the Lynchburg Chamber of Commerce (Chairman, 1983-84); a member of Junior Achievement; and served on the Board of Trustees of Lynchburg College. He attended Bethlehem Lutheran Church and, later, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brothers, Clayton, Randolph, Harold, and Raphael; his sisters, Phyllis and Corinne; and his son, Brett. He is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy; their daughter Alison Marshall (wife of Will, parents of Mallory and Kenton); daughter Heather Royer (wife of Bruce Royer, parents of Corey, Alexandra, Keller, and Austin); daughter Holly Hale (wife of Hershel); son Dirk Beasley (husband of the late Caroline Beasley, parents of Cynthia and Gordy); and son Darren Beasley (husband of Jennifer, parents of Bella, Samantha and Stella).

Lin loved to spend time entertaining friends and family with stories of his time in the military. You could always trust him to gather the mail and the newspaper right on time — even using binoculars to check on the mailbox flag. His loving family will miss him dearly.

A celebration of Lin’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lynchburg, with Pastor Dennis Roberts officiating. Contributions in his memory may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
