Lloyd Alton Spain, 48, of Rustburg died after a lengthy illness, on Tuesday April 6, 2010.
Lloyd was born May 28, 1961 in Norfolk, VA a son of Lois Redford Spain Mays of The Villages, FL, and the late Walton Drake Spain. Lloyd inherited the ability to tell a good joke from his Grandfather Redford and brought many a smile to his family and friends. He was dearly loved by his mother and brothers. Lloyd was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and boating. He was also a gifted auto and equipment mechanic and previously worked for Appalachian Plumbing Company, Inc. in both the plumbing and mechanical trades. A sensitive and compassionate person, he will be missed by his family, friends, and former co-workers.
In addition to his mother he is survived by two brothers, Eric N. Spain and his wife Tobi of Lynchburg, and Noel Spain of Titusville, FL. He was a loving husband and father to Karyn Smith and her two children Michelle and Michael. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, the Rev. Ramon N. Redford and his wife Iva G. Redford, the former minister of Memorial Christian Church in Lynchburg. He was also quite fond of his late step-father, Hap Mays.
The family will hold a private memorial service for Lloyd at a later date.
