Lloyd Earl Phillips, 82, of Coleman Falls died Monday, January 16, 2017. He was the devoted husband of Janet Schafer Phillips for over 57 years.
Lloyd was born November 4, 1934 in Lynchburg, the son of the late Earl Lester Phillips and Eranee Sligh Phillips. Lloyd honorably served his country in the U.S. Army and was retired from Georgia Pacific. He loved bluegrass music and played guitar in both the James River Five and the Bedford County Sheriff’s Bluegrass Band. Lloyd was a member of the Big Island Hunt Club. He enjoyed coon and bear hunting and especially loved hearing the sounds of the dogs run.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two daughters: DeAnn Brown and her husband John of Monroe, and Shana Moon and her husband Joe of Coleman Falls, three grandsons: John Brown, III and his wife Caroline, James Brown, and Bradley Brown, a sister Marion Phillips Woodfin and husband Rev. Bob of Forest, and a lifelong friend, who he considered his brother Harold “Leeboy” Plott.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandsons, Derek Lloyd Turner and Nicholas Marshall Turner.
A Celebration of Lloyd’s Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Cove United Methodist Church in Coleman Falls with the Rev. Sue Keen officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
