Lloyd Hundley Jones

August 5, 1936 — October 24, 2022

Lloyd Hundley Jones, of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away on October 24. He will always be remembered for approaching life with enthusiasm and his family and friends with compassion.

Lloyd was born on August 5, 1936, in Lynchburg to the late Buster D. and Lottie Arthur Jones of Lynchburg.  He served in both the Army and the Marines and won medals in each branch of service for his sharpshooting skills.  Lloyd lived most of his life in Lynchburg or Altavista, but he also lived in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for a few years.  He enjoyed aviation and worked for Piedmont Airlines, later US Air, for virtually his entire career.  Lloyd was also an avid Civil War buff and became a self-educated expert, visiting numerous battlefields from the first to the final conflict.  He also enjoyed metal detecting, which he skillfully used to find many Civil War artifacts.

Lloyd is survived by his son, David Hundley Jones of Irving, Texas and his wife, Annie, as well as by his daughter, Susan R. Jones Mudrie of Lynchburg, Virginia and her husband, Rick.  Lloyd is also survived by his sister, Edna Puckette of Lynchburg; brother, Roy Jones of Washington state; and brother, Henry Tyree, of Lynchburg. Lloyd is survived by two grandchildren Roberto David Jones and Ricardo Daniel Jones, and by Ricardo’s wife, Hayley Jones, all of whom reside in Lynchburg. Lloyd is also survived by four great grandchildren: Christian, Caidan, Chance, and Camdan.  Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Bobby Jones, Billy Jones, and Coy Jones.

Visitation will be held on  Sunday, October 30, 2022 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg from 4 to 6 p.m. A funeral service will be held the following day Monday, October 31, 2022 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, with interment to follow at Spring Hill Cemetery.
