Lois Brown Murrell

Lois Brown Murrell, 92, of Lynchburg, died on Saturday, May 11, 2013. She was the wife of the late William \"Bill\" McKendree Murrell, III. Lois was born in Ebensburg, PA on December 21, 1920, a daughter of the late Lee Cramer Brown and the late Amanda Catherine Roberts Brown.

Lois met Bill, the love of her life, in the Newton D. Baker Veterans\"™ Hospital in Martinsburg, WVA where she volunteered. Bill was recovering from wounds received during WWII while a POW. They spent the next fifty-four years together

Lois was a devoted member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah\"™s Witnesses on Wiggington Road. She was a master seamstress, wonderful cook, an adoring mother and grandmother and an avid crossword puzzle enthusiast. Lois always had a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone.

Lois is survived by four daughters, Catherine V. Murrell and friend, Denis Lison of Forest, Mary M. Jones and husband, Donald of Lynchburg, Elizabeth D. Murrell of Forest and Frances M. Grinnell and husband, Dan of Gainesville, VA; five grandchildren, Kenneth Lipscomb, II of Forest, Valerie Somma and husband, Steve of Forest, Lisa R. Murrell of Lynchburg, Amanda Smith and husband, Tony of Lynchburg and Daniel Grinnell of Gainesville; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Lois was predeceased by one son, William M. Murrell, IV, one granddaughter, Sharon Ober and two sisters, Esther Lees and Janet Becker.

The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg and other times at the home of Catherine Murrell. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg with Mr. Floyd Cabell officiating. Entombment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank the staff of Heritage Green for the wonderful care given to Lois for the past two and one half years and the staff of the Oncology floor at Lynchburg General Hospital.
