Lois Craighill Sale

Lois Craighill Sale, 91, of Lynchburg, died Monday, July 8, 2013, at her home. She was the wife of the late James Howard Sale.

Born in Lynchburg, September 16, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Preston Craighill and the late Lois Ligon Craighill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Samuel Preston Craighill, Jr.

Lois was a graduate of Syracuse University, where she received a bachelor\"™s degree in English and was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. Lois fondly remembered her university experience all her life. She had a multitude of interests and passions, her \"Kindergarten Group\" bridge club, which included her lifelong friends from Garland Rhodes Elementary School; her extended family, numerous friends and neighbors; her church, First Presbyterian, where she was a lifelong member and taught a women\"™s Sunday School class for 29 years; her love of all animals and the many trips she made throughout her life. She will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.

Surviving are her children, a daughter, Ellen Scott Sale Cooksey and her husband, Richard, of Lynchburg; two sons, James Craighill Sale and his wife, Rita, of Gordonsville and Bryan Handy Sale and his wife, Robyn, of Elon; three grandsons, Richard Scott Cooksey and Edward Craighill Cooksey, both of Lynchburg, and Samuel Craighill Sale of Providence, RI; one granddaughter, Nancy Rose Sale of Gordonsville; a sister-in-law, Anne Carrington Craighill, of Lynchburg; and three great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted on Tuesday, July 16, at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church, VES Road, Lynchburg, with the Rev. Steven Willis and the Rev. Dr. James J. H. Price officiating.

The family will receive friends in the church narthex immediately following the service.
