Lois Phillips Linkous, 75, of Bedford, Virginia passed away at her home on Friday, August 7, 2015, after she battled cancer with grace and courage.
Born October 18, 1939, in Prosperity, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Vernon and Pauline (Wingler) Phillips of Cool Ridge, West Virginia. Lois graduated from Shady Spring High School in Shady Spring, West Virginia in 1957, and graduated from Beckley College, in Beckley, West Virginia in 1958 with an Advanced Secretarial Degree. Later that year, Lois married her husband of 56 years, Michael James Linkous, on December 24, 1958.
After graduating from college, Lois began working as secretary for Shady Spring High School, and later at Hotpoint Appliance Office (a division of G.E.) in Richmond, Virginia for 10 years. She had a perfect attendance record her entire time at Hotpoint. For the past 30 years, she has served as CEO of Linkous Christian Tours, Inc., a bus and travel company based in Bedford, Virginia.
Lois was of the Baptist faith, and was a member of Mount Olivet Southern Baptist Church in Bedford, Virginia. She loved cats, especially her special cat, Friskie. She loved gospel music, reading, and had a collection of cats, as well as a doll collection.

In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her grandmother, Lura Wingler; and a nephew, Chad Phillips.
Left behind to cherish Lois’ memory are her husband, Michael James Linkous, and her son, Larry T. Linkous, both of Bedford, Virginia; three siblings, Ernie Phillips and his wife, Bonnie of Asheville, North Carolina, Lana Bell and her husband, Larry of Cool Ridge, West Virginia, and Lorraine Hart and her husband, Sam of Columbia, Maryland; her nieces and nephews, Eric Phillips and his wife, Lauren, and their children Carli and Blake of Rainbow City, Alabama, April Phillips of Asheville, North Carolina, Stacey Jenkins and her husband, Brooks of Asheville, North Carolina, Angela Sweeney and her husband, Andy, and their children, Hannah and Luke of Mechanicsville, Virginia, Richard Bell of Beckley, West Virginia, and Cassandra Hart of Columbia, Maryland.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 13, 2015, at the Mt. Olivet Southern Baptist Church from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., and again from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. A celebration of Lois’ life will be conducted at on Friday, August 14, 2015, beginning at 1 p.m. with Pastor Marc Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Southern Baptist Cemetery in Bedford, Virginia.
