Lois Tomlinson Wilkes, 94, of Lynchburg, died Friday, January 4, 2013 at Runk & Pratt Nursing Home in Forest. She was born on November 14, 1918 in Bedford County a daughter of the late James Smith Tomlinson and Lola Reynolds Tomlinson. In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her loving husband, Samuel Oscar Wilkes; four brothers, Edward Tomlinson, Smiley Tomlinson, Sr., Frank Tomlinson, Preston Tomlinson; and five sisters, Lillie T. Hudson, Lucy T. Bulis, Annie T. Ogden, Floy T. Staton and Hazel T. Arrington.
Lois was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lynchburg and Order of The Eastern Star. She loved her church where she worked in the nursery and also played in the bell choir. She loved reading and spending time with her family and friends. She also had a tremendous love for children.
Lois is survived by a sister-in-law, Lois T. Knight of Lynchburg; two special nieces, Judith A. Layne and husband, O. Preston of Bedford and Jane O. Fields and her husband, Warren \"Winkie\" of Forest; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

A celebration of Lois\"™s life will be conducted at 1:00 PM, Monday, January 7, 2013 at Tharp Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford, (540) 586-3443.
