Lois Tyree Dameron

Lois Tyree Dameron, 84, of Lynchburg, VA, formerly of Amherst, VA, went to be with her Lord on December 29, 2021. She died at home surrounded by family. She was the wife of the late Joyner Tyler Dameron, Jr., who preceded her in death in 2015.
She was born November 10, 1937 in Lynchburg, VA, daughter and stepdaughter to the late Ruby Knight Dameron and Herbert Julian Dameron and daughter of the late Everett Houston Tyree. Lois was raised in Lynchburg where the family attended Rivermont Presbyterian Church.
Lois married her husband Joyner in 1953 and within a few years the young couple moved to Amherst, VA where they resided in the family log cabin. They were soon blessed with children, and by the time she was 21 Lois was busy with four kids under five years of age.
Lois had an immense love for children and was a tireless nurturer. As her own children got older, she cared for many other children in her home over the years. She was an admirable homemaker, who was well known for her excellent cooking and sewing skills.
She cared for all living things, tending the family’s horses and dogs, spoiling cats, and even caring for baby calves, squirrels and birds. A dedicated gardener, she grew abundant vegetables and canned them. With her green thumb she rooted houseplants from single leaves and grew magnolia trees from seeds.
Lois was a long-time member of Amherst Presbyterian Church, where she taught children’s Sunday school, kept the nursery, and was part of the women’s circle.
In the 1980s, Lois and Joyner took on the mission of rebuilding and adding on to the original Dameron family farmhouse and made it their home. The home was filled with family gatherings, rich with the laughter of grandchildren and the smells of Lois’s cooking.
Lois and Joyner were devoted to each other for 62 years of marriage before his death. Her love and dedication was evident in her tremendous care for him during his last years of declining health.
Lois is survived by four children, Joyner T. (J.T.) Dameron III and wife Brenda, Elaine Dameron, Calvin Dameron and wife Michele, and Letha Zackowski and husband Scott.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Margaret (Meg) Christenson and husband Chris, Maureen Grove and husband Chris; Geoffrey Wise and wife Vidya, Heath Wise, Pheby Dameron; William (Zack) Zackowski and wife Melinda, Dameron Anne Frederich and husband Michael, Hunter Zackowski and wife Bryanna; along with seven great-grandchildren: Eliza, Nathan, and Emmett Grove, Sophia Wise, Edison and Ella Zackowski, and Boden Frederich.
A private graveside service will be followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Amherst Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to benefit Amherst Presbyterian Church.
