Loletta Johnson Pinn

September 3, 1931 — September 14, 2022

God, in His Infinite wisdom, called Loletta Johnson Pinn to her eternal rest on September 14, 2022.

Loletta was born in Lynchburg, VA to the late Thelma Wynn Johnson and James Andrew Johnson. She was a graduate of Campbell County High School.

She was employed as an elevator operator at Leggett Department store. She was also employed at the newly opened General Electric (Ericsson) where she worked until her retirement.

Loletta accepted Christ at an early age at White Rock Baptist Church. Later in life, she transferred her membership to Brookville Baptist Church, (Greater Brookville Church) to be with her family where she served faithful until her health failed. She served as youth pianist, church Treasurer, the Usher Board and Home Coming Committee.

Loletta was a devoted sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for anyone around her. She was married to the late Emmanuel Lee Pinn. From this union two daughters were born: Audrey P. McCoy (James) of Lynchburg and Beverly “Jean” Long (Michael) of Forest, VA.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Emmanuel Pinn, two brothers, Ryland and Chester Johnson, and great-grandson, Xavier Maurice Austin.

To cherish in her memory, along with her daughters, are Amanda McCoy (Melvin) of Lynchburg, her youngest sibling, her grandchildren: Nicole Austin (Sterling) of Suffolk, VA, Jaime McCoy of Lynchburg, Britney and Jordan Long of Forest, VA. Five great grandchildren: Nicholas Austin, of Suffolk, VA, Jaela, Tracie, Jaimeson and Traceson Tucker of Lynchburg, Four In-Laws: Betty Joyce Johnson, Arnetha Hayes, Mamie Hewitt and Constance Pinn and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Speaking from my heart to James McCoy, my brother-in-law, I would like to take this opportunity to say Thank You. James was a very special caregiver for momma. Before our father passed, he was told by our father to take care of “Pete” (Mom). Without a shadow of a doubt, he took on the responsibility with pride. What more can I say, “I love you, Bro!”

Loletta will be missed by her loved ones and friends, and we humbly submit to the will of God. Gone but not forgotten until we meet again.

Somewhere in our hearts beneath all our grief and pain, is a smile we still wear at the sound of your dear name. We want to thank our dear Mother for teaching us so well and though the time has come that we must bid you this farewell. Although you’ve left this Earth and now you’ve taken flight. We know that you are here with us each morning noon and night

A homegoing celebration will be held Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg with burial to follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Family requests those attending to wear a mask.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
