Lona Frances Brooks Davis

d. January 4, 2018

Lona Frances Brooks Davis, 94, died January 04, 2018. She was the wife of the late Frank L. Davis, Sr.

Lona was born July 11, 1923 in Pittsylvania County. She was the daughter of the late John Thomas Brooks and Ida Schwitzerlett Brooks.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend. She loved the outdoors, growing her beautiful flowers, working in her garden, and working in her yard.  Mama always taught us, “If you cannot say something nice about someone, don’t say anything at all.”  She lived by that motto.

She is survived by her children: Kay Montgomery and husband, Bennie; Peggy Lawrence and friend, Frank Neumann; Martha Coe and husband, Damon; and Frank L. Davis, Jr. and wife, Brenda. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Cynthia Kerr and fiancé, Chuck Knight; Julie Miles; Billy Lawrence, Jr. and wife, Andrea; Gene Davidson and wife, Debra; Jessica Elliott and husband, Wyatt; and Jacob Davis. In addition, she is survived by ten great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and her faithful friend Fay Bartley, who was like a daughter to her.

In addition to her husband and her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters Jim Brooks, Will Brooks, Clyde Brooks, Cora Irby, Lottie Wooldridge, Susie Hodges, and Sallie Wilson; a grandson, Tommy Miles; a son-in law, Billy Lawrence Sr.; and a grandson-in-law, Danny Kerr.

A service celebrating Lona’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Rustburg Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Cole officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the Rustburg Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.  Interment will be at Cumbie Memorial Cemetery following the service.

We would like to extend a very special thank you to Gentle Shephard Hospice. We cannot thank Emily, Pam, and Joanna enough for the love, care, and kindness they poured out on Lona and us during this difficult time.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg Virginia is assisting the family. Condolences may be sent to www.obituaries.tharpfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rustburg Baptist Church.
