Lora Lee Downey (Lori), 79, passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Spring Oaks Senior Living facility where she resided in Bedford, VA. Lori was born on October 18, 1943, and resided most of her childhood in Dansville, NY. As a loving mother and grandmother, one of her most favorite things to do was to host the annual family Fourth of July picnic at her home on Loon Lake where all could enjoy the fireworks and of course a Zweigles hot dog! Family was everything to her.
Preceded in death by her parents, Eva and Ralph Folts and her second husband Leo F. Downey, Lori is survived by her sons Michael (Sandra) Harter of Lynch Station, VA, Todd (Terry) Harter of San Marcos, TX, and Lee (Jennfer) Downey of Mineral, VA. Her grandchildren, Jason (Lisa) Harter of Elliston, VA, Shawn Harter (Liz) of Hurt, VA, Heather (Eric) Legeer of Austin, TX, Alexis, Connor and Jocelyn Downey of Mineral, VA, and her great-grandchildren, Neal and Marshal Harter of Hurt, VA, and Atlas Legeer of Austin, TX are all left to cherish her memory.
While Lori may be most recently known for her business, Accent Printing and Graphics in Wayland, NY, she also worked at SUNY Geneseo and Gunlocke for many years. However, her passion was volunteering at Camp Good Days & Special Times, a residential summer camp at Keuka Lake for children with cancer. She was awarded the Camp Good Days Ring of Honor for her dedication to the camp. Additionally, Lori was a volunteer at Vincent’s House, a hospice home in Wayland, and an active member in the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority of Dansville.
A graveside ceremony will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Green Mount Cemetery in Dansville, NY at 11:00 AM followed by a Celebration of Life at noon. Join us to share love and memories of Lori’s remarkable life.
