Lorenza Eubanks Davis, Sr. was born December  22, 1946 in Bedford County to Robert and Theresa Davis. He quietly departed this life on November 21, 2016 at Guggenheimer Rehabilitation Center. He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Vivian Davis and one brother, Cleophus Davis.

He is survived by two sons, Lorenza Davis Jr. (Sandra) of Charlottesville, Virginia, Derek Davis (Taylor) of Plano, Texas, four grandchildren, Olivia Terwilliger  (Naples, Florida), Eric and Nia Davis (Charlottesville, Virginia) and Emma Davis (Plano, Texas), one brother, Robert Davis Jr. (Lynchburg, Virginia), one sister, Frances Webb (Chatham, Virginia) a devoted friend, Jean Akerson (Big Island, Virginia), one sister-in-law, Frances Ferguson (Sylvester) of Lynchburg, Virginia, three brothers-in-law, Bernard Lee of Washington D.C., Jack Lee (Barbara) of Lanham, Maryland, Melvin Lee (Carol) of Bronx, New York, one aunt, Susie Davis (Lynchburg, Virginia) and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Lorenza dedicated his life to his country and community service. He served in the army and his commitments to community service were exemplified in the many positions he held within the community. Lorenza served as a member of the Bedford County school board for 9 years (5 years as Chairman).  He was also the president of the Boonsboro Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department and President of the Revelers Club.  In addition, Lorenza served as a board member on several organizations including the Exchange Club, United Way, Central Virginia Community College, the Boys and Girls Club and also served as Vice Chair of the Executive Committee for the Susie G. Gibson High School Reunion.

Lorenza was also dedicated to his church. At Altha Grove, he sang on two choirs, served on the usher board and also served as the chairman for the trustee board.

For all of his dedication and service, Lorenza received a Humanitarian Award from the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities in 2011.

All who came into contact with Lorenza admired him due to his compassion, commitment and loyalty to his family and dedicated service to the community.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, November 25, 2016 at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive,  Lynchburg, VA 24502 and other times at the residence, 3135 Trents Ferry Rd, Lynchburg, Va. A celebration of Lorenza’s life will be held at 1 p.m. at St. Paul Baptist Church, Forest, VA  on Saturday, November 26, 2016.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
