Lorna Terry Hurt

Lorna Terry Hurt of Moneta, VA passed away in the loving care of her family on the evening of February 17, at the Raleigh Court Rehabilitation Center in Roanoke.  Lorna was born December 28, 1937 in Meadows of Dan, VA to the late Herbert and Oma Terry.  Lorna was preceded in death by the love of her life, Carl Thomas Hurt, Jr., her faithful husband of 42 years.  She was also preceded in death by her husband's two sons, Barry Hurt and Bradley Hurt; her sister, Rosalie Conner; her brothers, Clovis Terry and Bernard Terry; and a special aunt, Ethel Stanley.

 

Lorna was a member of Morgan's Baptist Church in Moneta where she enjoyed singing in the choir.  As the last sibling left on the family farm in Meadows of Dan, in 1964, she worked the farm and cared for her mother and elderly aunt until the house burned in 1969. She moved to Roanoke and worked for various companies, mostly for the Carilion Health System for 18 years.  Lorna was an avid hunter and fisherman.  Her other favorite pastimes were reading, sewing, gardening, and especially quilting.

 

Lorna is survived by one son, Byron Hurt (Peggy) of Huddleston, VA; a daughter-In-Law, Linda Hurt of Hardy, VA;  her sisters, Sybil Butler (Kelly) of Virginia Beach, VA, Ruth Milam of Fort Worth, TX, Mildred Koehler (William) of Falls Church, VA, and Guelda Skaggs of Roanoke, VA; her sister-in-law, Ruth Terry of Floyd, VA; her brothers, Carl Terry (Nellie) of Bassett, VA and Grady Terry of Meadows Of Dan, VA; four grandchildren, Kathy Graves, Leslie Hurt, Brett Hurt, and Blake Hurt; six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  She also leaves behind trusted and caring friends, Cliff and Libby Sturgell of Moneta, VA. Special thanks are given to Linda Hurt, Leslie Hurt and Libby Sturgell who provided extensive care during her battle with cancer.

 

A memorial service will be held at Morgans Baptist Church, 2086 Morgans Church Road, Bedford, VA, 24523, on Friday, February 21, at 10:30 AM with interment immediately following in the church cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Morgans Baptist Church. Arrangements by Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford, 540-586-3443.
