Louise Jeanette Dickerson went to her eternal resting place on Thursday, September 14, 2017. She was born on September 4, 1944, to the late Edward and Retha Franklin.
Jeanette, as she was commonly called, accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Scott Zion Baptist Church. There she served faithfully as a Sunday school teacher for many years. Additionally, she devoted much of her time planning and executing programs for Christian growth and development.
Jeanette was a dedicated and caring educator for over 30 years where she played a huge role in shaping the lives of the children she taught and all those she encountered. In her third year of teaching, Ms. Dickerson, a master teacher, was chosen as an “Outstanding Teacher of America.” Even after retirement, she continued to mold young minds by tutoring and offering words of encouragement.
“There’s something every child can do. It may not be reading, but that child can be turned on to something. You just have to find it.” (Louise Dickerson, 1982)
Jeanette took care of everybody, from family members to strangers on the street. The love and care she showed toward others was beyond reproach.
Jeanette is survived by two sons, Tony Dickerson of Madison Heights, VA, Ivan “IV” Dickerson (Tuawana) of Evington, VA. She is also survived by two brothers and two sisters, Mary Booker, Robert Franklin (Cora), Melvin Franklin (Viola) all of Madison Heights, VA, and Shelia Miller (DuBois) of Richmond, VA; eight grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, Mecole, Marcus, Kristian, Courtney, Braedon, and Kameron; three great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
