Lowell Thomas Sweat, Sr., 88, of Madison Heights, Virginia, went to be with his Lord on October 20, 2021. He was the husband of Linda Keene Sweat for 64 years.
He was born July 10, 1933, in Riverview, Florida, a son of the late Loyce David Sweat and the late Margaret Killion Sweat Alderman.
Lowell, a native Floridian, was a man of many interests including aviation, sports, travel, and church ministry. He served as a deacon for many years at First Baptist Church, Ruskin, Florida, where he also drove a church bus, led the music, and served wherever he was needed. After moving to Virginia, Lowell became a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church, where his favorite job became driving sports teams and musical groups for Liberty University. After leaving LU, Lowell was a long-distance truck driver for Englander Transport. At the time of his death, he was a faithful member of Temple Baptist Church, Madison Heights, Virginia.
In addition to his wife Linda, he is survived by his children, Ginger Alice Sweat; Lowell Thomas Sweat, Jr., and his wife Tracy; and Marty Lyle Sweat and his wife Stephanie; grandchildren Spencer Coleman Sweat and his wife Caitlin, Luke Thomas Sweat, and Levi Thomas Sweat.; siblings Karen Sweat Driskell, Mike Alderman, Dell Alderman Murdock, and Steve Alderman.
He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his siblings Delma Sweat Tatom and Lyle David Sweat.
A funeral service will be held at Temple Baptist Church, Madison Heights, on Monday October 25, 2021, at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Steve Esterline officiating. Interment will follow at Briarwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
The family would like to thank Vanessa Calloway of Visiting Angels and the many caregivers from Centra Hospice for their excellent care during Lowell’s final days.
