Loving husband, father, and friend, Lowry Jock Miller of Forest, VA went to be with his Heavenly Father on September 11, 2015 after battling cancer for over 18 years. He is survived by Marjorie Donald Miller, his devoted wife of fifty-five years.
He was born in San Diego, CA, on November 15, 1937, the son of the late Naval Captain David L. Miller and Jean A. Miller, formerly of Oakland, CA. Upon graduating from Fairfax High School in 1955, as a Virginia State Champion in the pole vault, he earned a track scholarship to the University of Richmond and graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree in 1960. Lowry completed Officer Candidate School while at Richmond and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps Infantry. After serving four years on active duty he earned his law degree from T.C. Williams Law School at the University of Richmond in 1967. Lowry graduated from the Judge Advocate General School in 1974 and the U.S. Naval Justice School in 1977. He served in the Marine Corp Reserves as a JAG officer until his retirement as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1986.
Lowry was a distinguished lawyer practicing in northern Virginia for four decades and was well known as a highly skilled trial attorney. He was a former member of the American, Virginia State, Arlington, Alexandria, and Fairfax Bar Associations. In addition, he was member of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association and the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys. He was also a member and former President of the Northern Virginia Defense Lawyers Association. Lowry enjoyed golfing, fishing, hiking, and joking with his many friends and family. He loved to share his passions with others. He often could be found on a lake, golf course, or trekking the Peaks of Otter, the Virginia Appalachian Mountains, and even led the more adventurous through the treacherous trails of Mt. Whitney, CA.
