Lucille Carleen Hudson Burley, 95, of Lynchburg, died peacefully Saturday, November 25, 2017, at Berkshire Health and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, Bernard Alvin “Pete” Burley; her daughter Patricia Williams; a sister, Dorothy Cave; and two brothers, Claude and Frank Hudson.
Lucille was born in Amherst County on Friday, the 13th of October, 1922, a daughter of the late Eslie Sales Hudson and the late Ethel Gertrude Davis Hudson. Lucille was a member of Harvest Baptist Church. She graduated from Amherst County High School and worked at Sweet Briar College. Later she worked in the dry cleaning business at her retirement.
Lucille is survived by her children, James Dallas Burley of Lynchburg, Barbara Hannabass of Bedford, and Bonnie Campbell of Vinton; twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and great grandmother. She will be missed by family and many friends. She was certainly a senior saint.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and also from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2017, in the mausoleum of Fort Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Daniel Eubank and the Rev. Mark Snowden officiating.
