Lucy Lynne White, age 72, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024. Born on June 17, 1952, to Clyde W. Stewart and Jeanne Cooper Stewart, Lucy grew up in Portsmouth, Virginia, where she cultivated the warmth and kindness that defined her life.
Lucy is survived by her two sons, Clayton Scott White and William Andrew White, her daughter-in-law Jessica Smotrel White, and her two grandchildren Oliver and Wilson, who were the light of her life in her later years.
She is also survived by her brother Bill Stewart of Cresaptown, Maryland, and his wife Twylah Stewart. She was preceded in death by her husband, Duncan Clayton White, Jr.
Lucy’s passions were as vibrant as her personality. She loved spending time at the beach, reconnecting with lifelong friends in Portsmouth, Virginia, and enjoying happy hour dinners at Charley’s with her Lynchburg gal pals. Among her proudest achievements was raising her two sons to be fairly responsible and productive members of society, as a single mother.
She was a friend to everyone she met, offering her warmth, humor, and generosity without hesitation. Lucy’s legacy is one of kindness, laughter, and unwavering support for those she loved. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and everyone fortunate enough to have known her.
A celebration of Lucy’s life will be held at Tharp Funeral Home beginning at 12 p.m. on Sunday, January 5, 2025. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Kids Haven or Habitat for Humanity.
Rest in peace, Lucy, knowing that your love and laughter will live on in all who knew you.
