He was preceded in death by his brothers and their wives, John Coleman Fry (Lennie), Charles Fry (Kitty), along with two step-brothers, Milton Fry (Edna) and Ashley Fry (Mildred). Dan was of the Baptist faith and lived his entire life firmly believing that honesty and integrity defined you as a person in every walk of life.
He graduated from E.C. Glass High School in the class of 1947 and immediately went to work at Mead Board Sales as a shipping clerk. He worked his way up through the company and in 1959 was given the opportunity to join the Sales Group as a salesman. His first sales position was in Detroit, Mich. where he met his future wife, Betty Jean Gardner. They married in 1960 and started a family in Detroit. He quickly gained a reputation as an extremely valuable salesman and was transferred to Dallas, Texas in 1961 to open a new sales office. In 1964 he was transferred to Memphis, Tenn. to again open a new sales office. In 1965 he was transferred to Atlanta, Ga. to an established sales office. In 1967 the opportunity was offered to return to Lynchburg as the Sales Manager of the Lynchburg Plant. He and his family moved to Lynchburg and he continued as a salesman with Mead Board Sales until they were acquired by Rock Tenn Company in 1988. He retired from the Mead Corporation and was hired by Rock Tenn to continue his sales career. He retired from Rock Tenn in 1995 after 48 years of continued dedicated service. Honesty and integrity made him one of the Mead Corporation/Rock Tenn Company’s most valued employees. He always considered Denny Fringer to be one of his most valued friends and co-workers.
