Lydia “Sharon” Gorton, 68, of Lynchburg, passed Monday, April 22, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Baker and Lydia Stake, and a young brother John.
Born on October 20, 1955, in Pennsylvania, her love for traveling started young as a child of an Air Force family, then carried on in her adult years. She was employed at Electric Boat shipyard in Groton, CT, and later as a document controller at Framatome in Lynchburg. Sharon enjoyed spending time with her family, knitting, and being with her loving dog, Molly.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Daryl; son Chris Shaffer (Vona), stepson Ian Gorton (Nicole), stepdaughter Christine Meehan (John); grandsons Christian Shaffer, Donavan Sharp, Gavin Gorton; granddaughters Trescella Shaffer, Meghan Meehan, Kathleen Meehan; great-grandson, Jack; sisters Mary Rennels (Wayne) and Debbie Ridgeway (John) and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Sunday, April 28, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg. A memorial service will be held Monday, April 29, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Boonsboro United Methodist Church.
