Lyla Virginia Martin Perdue Witt, 93, of Bedford, passed away at Lynchburg General Hospital on Thursday, August 5, 2021. She was born on August 6, 1927, to the late Sandy James Martin and Okie Lynch Martin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Edmond Dee Perdue and Carlton Bond Witt and daughter and son-in-law, Shelby Perdue, and Barry Nichols.
Lyla was long time member of Main Street United Methodist Church where she attended regularly. She loved socializing, traveling, and spending time with her family. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Greta Wood Rakes and husband, Mark and Rodney D. Nichols and wife, Tracy; great-grandchildren, Dee Wood, Zachary Wood, Tristen Nichols, Justyn Nichols, Selenia Nichols; sisters, Christine Martin, and Betty Lou Owen; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 9, 2021, at Tharp Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Minister Steve Clevenger officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
