Lynn Hume Stuart

Lynn\"™s beautiful life on this earth ended November 2, 2012. Lynn was born October 25, 1938 in Ft. Worth, Texas. The daughter of John Hume Jr. and Francis Neill Hume. Lynn was the guiding star for her husband William who survives her. She was a wonderful mother to her three sons: William III, John and Kenneth. A compassionate mother-in-law to Ken\"™s wife Anne and a proud grandmother to their daughter Leigh.

Lynn graduated from Highland Park High School in Dallas, Texas and then on to Randolph-Macon Woman\"™s College. She graduated magna cum laude in history with a minor in sociology. This was a notable accomplishment as she was a very active student leader.

Lynn was married to Bill in 1960 and was with Bill during his Army service. Lynn then taught history at Va. Tech while Bill was in graduate school.

In 1964 she moved to Lynchburg and was again active at Randolph-Macon. Her service to the College included work on the Centennial Campaign Steering Committee, the 1986 Presidential Search Committee, the College\"™s 75th and 100th anniversary committees, and a Trustee from 2000-2010 where she chaired the Building and Grounds Committee. Lynn served as the Trustee representative to the committee that developed the College\"™s Facilities Plan. Lynn has volunteered at the Maier Museum of Art at Randolph College as a docent for over 30 years. In 2012 she received the College\"™s Alumnae Achievement Award.

For the Association of Alumnae and Alumni, she has given countless hours through the years \"" as the Association President, Nominating Chair, alumnae representative to the Board of Trustees, Class Secretary, Reunion Giving Leader, and as the Lynchburg Chapter President.

Lynn was equally invested in volunteer service with projects and boards of the Junior League, the Family Alliance, Daily Bread, Kaleidoscope, Ragged Robin Garden Club, Episcopal churches and the Diocese of Southwest Virginia. She served on the board of Westminster Canterbury in Lynchburg for 8 years \"" three as Board Chair. Her avid interest in history and architecture led her to volunteer as a docent at Thomas Jefferson\"™s Poplar Forest. For her work in the community Lynn received the Humanitarian Award from the Lynchburg Chapter of the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities in 2007.

Lynn\"™s unselfish service to others left a better world for us. Her life should be an inspiration for us all.
