Lynwood James Dodson

d. March 3, 2018

Lynwood James Dodson, age 92, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 3, 2018 with his loving daughters by his side. He was born on the Dodson family farm in Campbell County, Virginia on May 17, 1925 to Preston Clark Dodson and Alma Holland Dodson.

He was a graduate of Rustburg High School and served in the U. S. Navy during WWII. He was employed by Lynchburg Foundry for over 40 years. He was a member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church for over 50 years where he served as a Sunday School teacher. He faithfully attended Tree of Life Ministries during his later years in life. However, his greatest accomplishment was living a selfless life for Christ, which, in turn, inspired everyone who was blessed to know him.

Lynwood was preceded in death by his devoted and loving wife of 58 years, Betty Watson Dodson. He is survived by his three children, Rhonda Stephens (David) of Forest, Martha Cheatham of Lynchburg, and Tamara Allen of Forest; four grandchildren, Bonnie Cheatham of Lynchburg, Tiffany Allen of Charlotte, N.C., Daphne Allen of Virginia Beach, and William Cheatham of Lynchburg. He was preceded in death by his siblings Preston Dodson, John Dodson, Glover Dodson, Henry Dodson, Warren Dodson, Ruth Smith, Aurelia Lovelace, Mamie Hall, and Alma Lee Tyler. He is survived by a sister, Doris Brown of Lynchburg. He was blessed with many loving nieces, nephews, and faithful friends. One of the many blessings God provided was the loving and devoted caregivers who became like family to him. The family will be forever grateful for the love and dedication they graciously provided throughout the years.

Without a doubt, when Lynwood entered into the gates of Heaven, the Lord looked at him and said, “Well done, good and faithful servant…enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.” Matthew 25:23
