Mable Ada Belle Slaughter, departed this life on August 17, 2012 at 10:00 pm at Medical Care Center
Mable was one of nine children born to the late Morton James and Fannie Ann Slaughter She was preceded in death by three sisters Martha Ann Slaughter, Margaret Susie Austin (William), Louise Elizabeth Slaughter, four brothers, Alford Slaughter, Lenwood James Slaughter, London Edward Slaughter (Elizabeth) and Silas Douglas Slaughter (Margie).
She was a devoted member of Altha Grove Baptist Church, Forest, Va. To cherish her precious memories are three daughters Juliann Edwards, Linda S. Christian both of Madison Heights and Jeanette McQueen (Gary) of Richmond; four sons, Scott J. Slaughter, Alford Slaughter (Cynthia), Roy Slaughter all of Forest, Ray Slaughter (Kosie) of Fayetteville, NC; one sister, Josephine Miller (Aubrey) of Lynchburg, a sister in-law Hallie Slaughter, fifteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren. Special close family friends; Ethel May Hunt (Roosevelt) Darnell Appling Paige (William Jr.), Clearbrook Apt. friends, a host of nieces, nephews and numerous other family, friends and two special dogs, BJ and Chubby.
Mable worked at the Central Virginia Training Center for a number of years, after retiring she worked at the DAV store. She was a very passionate about supporting the Veterans.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, August 20, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg.
A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at Altha Grove Baptist Church, 7376 Cottontown Road, Forest with Pastor Thomas Harper officiating. Interment will follow in Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family wishes memorial contributions to American Cancer Society, 2840 Electric Road, Suite 106A, Roanoke, VA. 24018 or Altha Grove Baptist Church, 7376 Cottontown Road, Forest, VA. 24551.
