Mae Alma Proffitt Hartless

April 4, 1931 — November 27, 2024

Monroe

Mae Alma Proffitt Hartless passed away on November 27, 2024. She was born on April 4, 1931, a daughter of the late Manson Heath Proffitt and Marietta Tinner Proffitt.

Mae’s love for animals was evident in the care and companionship she shared with her three beloved dogs—Tiger, Biscuit, and Daisy Mae. They were her constant companions and brought her great joy and comfort throughout her life.

A lover of simple pleasures, she found great joy in solving puzzles, coloring, and drawing. Her creativity and passion for art were a reflection of her gentle spirit. She was also known for her infectious laughter and the warmth she brought to every family gathering.

Beyond her personal hobbies, she was committed to helping others. She generously donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause that was near and dear to her heart. Her legacy of kindness and compassion will continue to inspire those who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 70 years, Wilson Junior Hartless; daughter, Marietta Verna Parker; five sisters, Marion P. Barrs, Dorothy L. Norvell, Alice E. Crouch, Joan Martin, and Kathleen Simpson; and one brother, Weston John Proffitt.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara A. Harris (friend David) and Tammy K. Crouch (Ernest); two sons, John M. Hartless (Dawn) and Steve H. Austin (late wife Ida); one brother, Manson Heath Proffitt; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.
