To family, friends, and loved ones—On March 1, 2025, God called home our beloved Mahalia Mickles, granting her a new and eternal address in Heaven. No longer residing at 117 Melinda Drive in Lynchburg, VA, she now rests in the presence of our Holy Father. As the Lord said, "Come to me, all you who are weary, and I will give you rest." To God be the glory!
Mahalia, best known as “Resa,” was born on December 21, 1949, to the late Emma and Leroy Wade. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Q.A. Burks and Irvin Wade, as well as her cherished granddaughter, Whitney Mickles.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, survived by her husband of 47 years, Donald Mickles; their children, Melissa Mickles, Tina Mickles, and Avery Mickles; and her beloved grandchildren, Tray Wright and Dominique Pryor, along with great-granddaughters Mariah and Emerie. Resa is also lovingly remembered by her siblings, Winfred Wade, Denise Payne, Norman Wade, Gina Slaughter, Cheryl Dean, and Tony Wade. Additionally, she is survived by her brother-in-law Lloyd (Betty) Mickles and sisters-in-law Everette Mickles and Karen Price, as well as many other dear relatives and friends. She is also survived by her aunt Mollie Little, uncle Owen Burks, and many other dear relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held on March 7, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Tharp Funeral Home and Crematory in Lynchburg, VA.
