Malcolm Ray Calloway, 77, of 6530 Coffey Rd. Forest, Va., died Friday, April 29, 2016. He was the loving husband of the late Katie Calloway.
Born March 31, 1939, in Coleman Falls, Virginia, he received Christ at an early age at the Antioch Baptist Church, Coleman Falls, Virginia. He was a son of the late Albert and Margaret Calloway. He was preceded in death by his brothers, George “Pete” Calloway, Marcus “Hump” Calloway, James “Jim” Calloway, Addison “Ad” Calloway; sister-in-law, Shirley Anderson; brother-in-law, Emory Johnson, Sr.
Mack began driving school busses for Bedford County Schools at the age of 16 and retired from the Bedford County School System in 2014, at the age of 75. He loved driving and had a strong influence on the lives of the children that he transported. He also loved the comradery that he had with his fellow drivers and the school staff at Boonsboro Elementary School. In 1980 he joined the Big Island Masonic Lodge #316.
Left to cherish Mack’s memory are his sons, Gary, Chris (Felicia), Randy (Ernestine), and Malcolm; siblings, Virginia Johnson and Olivia Williams; sisters-in-law, Pauline Calloway, Odessa Calloway, Maxine Calloway, of Baltimore, Md., and Marie Rucker (George); brothers-in-law, Warren Anderson and Leroy Williams; thirteen grandchildren, Gary Jr., Brandy, Travis, Chris Jr. Trey, Trevor, Taylor, Destiny, Chandler, Randy II , Iman, Tyesha, and Jordan; three great-grandchildren, Telaina , Amari,and Moriah; special nieces, Mary Woods and Shirley Thornhill; many other nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg on Monday, May 2, 2016, and all other times at residence of 1278 Walkers Crossing Dr., Forest, Va. 24551. A Celebration of Mack’s Life will be held at 12 p.m. at Altha Grove Baptist Church, 7376 Cotton Town Rd, Forest Va. 24551, on Tuesday, May 3, 2016.
