Manuel DeAtocha Chavez, Jr., 84, of Lynchburg died Tuesday, August 23, 2016. He was the loving husband of the late Jacqueline (Jackie) Hamilton Chavez.
Mannie was born June 9, 1932 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, a son of the late Manuel DeAtocha Chavez, Sr. and Evangeline Lonteen Chavez. Mannie honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and the Vietnam War, and was retired as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. He was also a parishioner of St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
He is survived by two sons, Anthony (Tony) Lloyd Chavez of Crozet, and Matthew Richard Chavez of Lynchburg, a daughter Anita Sarah Chavez Cannon of Lynchburg, three brothers: Ernest Chavez of Fresno, CA, Abraham Chavez of Albuquerque, NM, and John Chavez of San Antonio, TX, and four sisters: Theresa Chavez, Patricia Martin both of Albuquerque, NM, Margaret Lovato of Phoenix, AZ, and Alice Daly of Denver, CO, and ten grandchildren: Casey Chavez, Colton Chavez, Aislynn Turner, April Smith, Seth Cannon, Robert Schmutz, Grace Chavez, Brooke Chavez, Caroline Thomas, and Christen Thomas.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son Mark David Chavez, and two sisters Marie Suzanne Garcia and Rose Marie Montoya.
A Funeral Mass will be conducted at 11 am Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with Father Sal Anonuevo officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the Funeral Mass and a reception will follow immediately in the church Fellowship Hall.
