Marc Thomas Fanning, 54, of Lynchburg, died on Tuesday, October 21, 2014, in Hong Kong, China. He was the husband of Tracy Lynne Fanning.
Marc was born on March 15, 1960, to George and Sherry Fanning in Toledo, OH. He graduated from Sylvania Northview High School in Ohio in 1978. He later went on to earn his Bachelor of Business Administration from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, OH.
He began his professional career in 1982 as a store manager at the Thom McAn Shoe Company in Toledo and Lima, OH. In 1984, Marc moved on to Gussini Shoes in Elkridge, MD where he acted as an Associate Buyer and Merchandise Distributor. After working in Maryland for four years, he decided to move back to Ohio where he began working for the Kobacker Company as a Buyer and Associate Buyer for the Shoe Works, Patrini, and Gussini stores in 1988. Marc then worked for a brief period between 1992 and 1993 for Pentland U.S.A., Inc. in New Hyde Park, NY as an Operations Manager. Afterwards, he began his true career in this industry at Consolidated Shoe Company in Lynchburg, VA in 1993. Marc began there as the Vice President of the Tradewinds Importing Co. division and became the Chief Operating Officer of Consolidated Shoe. He managed all aspects of the Far East Division in the Chinese office and also in the American office.
In his spare time, Marc loved to spend time with his loving family and he enjoyed reading. He also loved outdoor sports like tennis, and water sports, especially spending time on his boat at Smith Mountain Lake. He loved Virginia Tech football games and Nascar as well as visiting the Cayman Islands.
In addition to his wife and parents, Marc is survived by his son, Spencer Ryan Fanning, his sister Carrie Kremchek and her husband Jeff, two nephews: Ryan and Kyle Kremchek; his in-laws, Gloria Reed and Wayne Estrel, and a brother-in-law, Todd Reed.
