It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marcella Ellen Shilling, a cherished wife, devoted mother, and treasured friend, on June 12, 2024, at the age of 77.
Born on December 4, 1946, in Charlotte, NC, to the late Brutus and Ellen Anderson, Marcy’s life was a testament to love, kindness, and generosity. As a mother, she was the heart of her family. She was a constant source of support, encouragement, and wisdom. Her dedication to her family extended beyond her immediate family, as she embraced her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother with boundless joy and enthusiasm.
Beyond her family and career, Marcy was a beloved friend to many. Her infectious laughter, compassionate nature, and unwavering loyalty endeared her to all who knew her. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel special and valued, and her ability to listen with understanding truly made everyone feel special and valued.
Marcy’s love for life was evident in everything she did, from her beautifully tended plants to her vibrant community involvement. She was an active member of the local church and an active participant in her regional Garden Club. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, providing her with strength and grace through all of life's challenges.
Marcy is survived by her devoted husband, Don; her children, Donald (Marti) Robertson, Kimberly (Joshua) Cockey, Stephanie (Scott) Shipley, and Jennifer (William) Cradlin; her grandchildren, Courtney, Katlin, and Kelly Robertson, Elizabeth (Mike) Binko, Joshua (Nancy) Cockey, Tyler (Kelsey) Shipley, Peyton Shipley, and Phinn and Viggo Cradlin; her great-grandchildren Izayah, Ka’rina, Ja’Kori, Logan, Tanner, Zara, and Lorenzo; as well as many cousins and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Brutus C. and Ellen Rogers Anderson.
Marcella’s legacy of love, kindness, and selflessness will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
A memorial service for the family will be held on June 29, 2024 at Virginia Memorial Park at 11:30 a.m. A celebration of Marcy’s life will follow at Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church at 1:00 p.m, open to all.
