Margaret “Peggy” Clement, 88, of Elliott City, MD, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2022, at Lorien Encore at Turf Valley. She was born April 21, 1933, in Orland, ME and was the daughter of the late Jay and Doris Clement. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Millard Clement, Merrill Clement, John Clement, her sister Rachael Holman and sister-in-law Leah Clement. Also, preceding her in death was her son-in-law, Michael Carnock, Sr. and foster daughter Jo-Ann Hesseltine.
As a young woman, Peggy attended Higgins Classical Institute in Charleston, ME. From there she went on to join the Air Force until she became a mother in the spring of 1956. Peggy was an entrepreneur and owned several businesses throughout her life, including a dress shop, rental properties and restaurants. She was always active in church and loved serving the Lord. She was part of the choir at Heritage Baptist Church and for many years she participated in Young at Heart and Autumn Angels.
A loving mother, she is survived by son Kevin Davidson of Livermore, California, son Bradley Gillaspy of Madison Heights, VA and his wife Rebecca, son Craig Gillaspy of Lynchburg, VA and his wife Debbie, daughter Pamela Carnock of Ellicott City, MD and foster daughters Lillian Wilson of Massachusetts and Phoebe Horton of Blue Hill, ME. Also surviving her are sister-in-laws Bettye Clement of Orland, ME and Shirley Lopez Clement of Cypress, California. She was the beloved grandmother to Shanna, Chad, Ben, Helen, Ciera, Zachary, Michael Jr., Solomon, Samson and Sydney, in addition to eleven great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. She was a loving aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Peggy’s life will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, March 18, 2022, at Heritage Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Tucker officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.. Interment will follow the service in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Heritage Baptist Church.
